Is Versailles going to be closed on the same dates as Brown County and Fort Harrison for hunting?

Rants and Raves / What's your favorite bike shop and why?
« on: April 05, 2016, 02:10:33 PM »
Post up about your favorite bike shop and what makes it special.  Great service, inventory, or online catalog.  Maybe it is the local flavor, product/bike brand or selection, or maybe they have a great wrench that gets it right every time.  It can be local or one that you've visited when out of town or even an online retailer.  Provide links if possible.

Tech Bench / tips for getting the bead to seat
« on: June 14, 2015, 08:51:11 PM »
Took a ride on Green Valley last Friday and got a flat.  I have always had trouble getting the bead to seed but it was impossible with my small trail pump and cost way too much ride time.  Does anyone have any tips, tricks, or suggestions to get a stubborn tire bead to seed?

Rants and Raves / platform vs. clipless
« on: December 13, 2012, 10:26:07 AM »
I know some of us have been through this before but lets get some stats.  I am going to buy flats for when I take my young kids riding but after tearing up my shoulder/upper back practicing a manual while clipped in I am debating spending some coin on a good pair of platforms and five-tens.  At least for when I'm feeling like working on some more techy stuff.

Tech Bench / Cassettes
« on: March 19, 2012, 11:21:08 PM »
I'm thinking I need a new cassette, my rig is a '08 Giant Trance X2 and it has the factory Sram PG 980 on it.  (9 sp)  Shifting is crappy and chain likes to jump the teeth, even after replacing and lubing cables, and cleaning and lubing the derailer.  I also cleaned the cassette and found noticible wear on it.

What's the best cassette I can get for the least amount of $?  Sram vs. Shimano or other.

Thanks all and karma pending! ;)

Tech Bench / Bent rim
« on: August 23, 2011, 03:20:32 PM »
I have a WTB Laserdisc Trail rim and bent it pretty good at Winona a couple of weekends ago.  Took it to the bike shop up there and the kid straightened it out good enough I can ride but there is still a good wabble to it when I ride.  Aside from buying a new rim has anyone had any success in straightening out a bent rim?  I was thinking if I use a rubber mallet?  Would this compromise the strength?
If I do have to get rims should I buy them as a set or could I just replace the front?

Find a Trail / Fort Custer, Outback trail, or Winona?
« on: August 09, 2011, 10:31:11 PM »
Looking for a good trail system where I could get 20 or so miles in.  I have half a day Saturday from Elkhart and want to get the most out of my time.  I have ridden TK Lawless, Rum Village, and Potato Creek and want to try something different but not to far away.  Any intermediate to advanced trails with some good climbs, decents, and features like jumps, skinnies, drops, logs.  I can ride anything but the most advanced stuff.  Which of the three would be best or if anyone knows of any other good trails in the area.

Tech Bench / oil leaking from my Fox 32 F120R fork
« on: June 15, 2011, 03:16:06 PM »
I noticed my fork kept getting dirty after riding and it was building up down around the seals and on the fork like where I max out on travel.  I think it may collecting on oil leaking form the shock.  Could this be from hanging the bike upside down in the garage?  Do I need to have the seals replaced or worked on?  Is this something I need to worry about.  What kind of maintenance does a fork like that need anyway?  What do the fine mechanics of the HMBA forum think?

Tech Bench / Knocking sound when I ride.
« on: May 11, 2011, 03:14:25 PM »
Need some experienced imput here.  I have a mid to late model Trek singletrack 930 and I use it for commuting and giving my 18 month old rides in a seat that snaps on a rack.
Lately when I ride I've noticed a knocking sound, like someone is just tapping the frame with a rock or somthing.  I have inspected the bike and there is nothing loose that I can tell.  I think it is coming from the front wheel but what is strange is there is no rhythm to it at all, just very random. ???  Could this come from the bearings in the wheel?  It seems to spin fine?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Racing...from the novice to seasoned / DINO PJ's
« on: April 24, 2011, 04:03:11 PM »

My wife bought this for my little guy because she thought daddy would love it.  It made me think of DINO Mountain biking.  Actually he would need a tricycle division but the plan is to have him on the trails with me in 5 years or so.
