Thanks for the trail work this summer
I plan to mow at TRT south loop tmro w/ walk behind bush hog from Runyon Tool rental. Let me know if you would like to join or need any equip. After mowing TRT I plan to evaluate Hazel Landing & RR. The new frisbee golf at Hazel landing should be open

Trail is opened back up again. Downed tree removed, overgrowth has been cut back

Yesterday at the trailhead picnic table, I heard some riders talking about a crash that "resulted" in an opened feature. I would not count on this trail "feature" as 'officially or permanent'

I'm with gt ss. Ride your ride unless a pass is called for.
I can usually size up a rider's skill set and I know where the safe passing zones are, so unless it's closed course racing, I'll keep quiet until we can arrange a pass. At that time I'll say "one back, you call the pass". Then depending on which side of the trail you pull over to, I'll say "on your (left/right), thank you"
For those mouth breathers that somehow loose the ability to formulate effective speach, I have a mirror. Then I can choose (or not choose) when, where or who I want to outrun.

A small but hardy crew of four volunteers made it out in today's warm weather. River road is still drying out. Hazel Landing is ready to ride and has more people & dogs using it.

This volunteer cut out that tree today. Thanks to the hiker walking by with his dog, it made a nice bench.

Hazel Landing is a Carmel Parks property. Future plans include natural surface connections to TRT to the south and River rd to the north. Carmel's long term plan for the park includes paths on the prairie. One of the limiting factors for this land is frequent major flooding

I road all three trails along the once flooding White River. I noticed a gang on bmx bikes. Then ran into them again at TRT. Great activity on this trail and the Hazel Landing path is well used by hikers, many with dogs.

I don't own or have any direct experience with either. My opinion is the price is too high and the accuracy is too far off for Mt Biking. Recently I saw a blog/post from the Breakdown. Some how the 60 miles came out as 53 miles on Garmin 500. Maybe it dropped a few switch backs?
Since I already bring my iphone on all of my rides and I do not want to shell out another $250 or $450 for the 800, I bought:
1) the tigra handlebar bike mount case, 2) the ant+ adapter for my iphone from Wahoo, 3) the Wahoo bike speed & cadence sensor 4) then downloaded the Fisica app and until the battery issues are resolved - turned off the gps tracker.
Now I can have one device for all of my bikes plus I can text like a teenage girl!
So one year from now will I be risking my iphone in a pisgah full immersion creek crossing or back with the disposable $40 bike computers?
My advice is to look at this new ant+ standard

Adjustments to Lower trail began today. I missed the memo on everybody wearing orange. A big thanks to the Hamilton County Park dept. & Correctional dept. It takes a team and many man hours to build & maintain natural surface trails.

His mom posted this on his Facebook page about an hour ago
Donna Dobbs - a quick update. because his heart stopped and had to be shocked, they needed to cool his entire body way down. This keeps the brain from having any activity. At 10pm last night, they started warming him up. It will take 3 days. Then he will be evaluated neurologically and then we hope to proceed to open heart surg...

Got out on the tandem today with mrs surette, nice! The view from the overlooks - lower trail was mostly mud & the task of regular trash pick-up is needed. I will also ask the parks dept for seasonal trash cans at the overlooks.

Yesterday morning, I checked on River Road, Hazel Landing & Town Run. Since today the weather is much improved, I plan to do the same this am. I ride from my house so the loop works even if the dirt is not ridable. Unfortunately, sections of Town Run are on the way to another user group (horses or swamp buggies)!! I see it as a "perfect storm" of several factors including bad weather combined with a sport that is becoming more popular. Until there are full time employment positions tasked with trail care maintenance, I am suggesting a volunteer trail crew connected by email (not the HMBA forum maybe yahoo group?) that patrol "their trail" regularly (every other day). They would be equiped to put-out small "fires" on their own and be willing to form groups for larger tasks & or re-routes when needed. This should free up HMBA to handle State wide issues while we take care of the trails in our back yard. I will begin this effort in Hamilton County. If you are interested in being part of YOUR TRAIL Care Crew please email me your contact info with the tasked you prefer ( trash sweeper, mowing, trimming bushes, cutting trees, fixing mud holes, adding features or re-routes...). There will be 1-2 hr monthly clinics for you beginners to orient on safely completing your task. Questions? Call me 513 4383 or email steve@gsinspect.com
