We used to ride the "old" trails years ago, with baseball caps and nothing more. So 7 years ago when I first began riding TRTP I thought, "Hey, I've done this before and never had a problem why do I need a helmet?" Plus I thought I looked like a dork with one on. A few early close calls with trees made me think otherwise. Then came the times I actually have fallen, once on tetanus hill, various slides on powdery dry trails, got clobbered by a low hanging vine, hurt even with my helmet. I couldn't have imagined how things would have turned out if I didn't have my helmet on. Especially the low hanging vine, on the return trail a few feet before the Talking Tree on the right side. I was flying, saw it at the last second, it hurt so much I actually had to stop to clear the stars outta my head. Thought I had a concussion. I shutter to think of what would have happened to my noggin had I not been wearing that helmet. It is a personal choice, but I hate to see anyone get hurt because they didn't have one on. And really, I get that you may not be able to afford one, you can have my old one if you really need it, replacement cushions are only a few bucks.
