Okay.. sorry about that. Yep, sounds like you were on the correct trail. In that case, I think you did the right thing in being nice. We want to put the best face forward as possible.

My suggestion would be, if this happens to anyone else, to kindly tell them yes, this is a MTB trail. If they have any questions, they should talk to the park office.

Thanks for being a good ambassador for the sport!

I put up signs yesterday at the trail head to explain the trails are open to bikes.

Please just be polite and move on.  If are concerned, contact the park staff.

yea i didnt enter the no bikes area, but i think they may have either gottten off the trail intentionally, or gotten lost.  Either way they were not very nice about it.

I rode the new trail four times yesterday and encountered a lady and her dog going in the same direction and two men walking in the opposite direction.  They were all very nice and moved over to let me by.  Loved the new trail!

This area (Beginner Trail) is complicated by the extensive social hiking trail network (Social is a nice word for unauthorized, and unauthorized is a nice word for illegal).  The beginner trail actually crosses several social trails.  So it is possible to encounter hikers who are using the social trails.

The really fun part will be when we start closing down the social trails.  This will likely make some current park users upset.  I suspect our volunteers will have some interesting encounters.

The best approach is to refer anyone who is upset to the park staff and move on a politely as possible.

State Parks understands that not everyone is going to be happy about the changes.
