HMBA just was awarded a $10,000 Grant from REI. They are opening a store in Castleton and are really committed to helping local outdoor advocacy.
http://www.rei.com/stewardship/rei_community
In addition to the grant, REI will have a full time staff person dedicated to advocacy. REI will be helping to organize and support some large volunteer work days in support of the grant.
When combined with the dedicated volunteers we already have building trails at Fort Ben, this grant should allow us to complete the Fort Harrison Trail system in 2012.
Thanks,
Paul

Paul, if you'd like, give them my contact info. I can assist with socializing these on the FB page, HMBA home page and here.

This winter would be a great time to be planning for building bridges and armored crossings so that come spring time we can start building them! Ofcourse armoring is needed for all crossings first which means we need lots of rock. A plug to DNR for a nice big limestone rock pile is in order! The armoring rock could be pre positioned now or even put in placed while the ground is workable.

REI Sent us the following official announcement on their efforts at giving back to the Indianapolis community. Thanks REI!
"In each of its communities, REI partners with local nonprofits that work to preserve natural spaces through activities such as gear donations, financial contributions and event promotions. Locally, REI granted
Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc.
(KIB) and
Hoosier Mountain Bike Association (HMBA)
with $10,000 each to support stewardship efforts in and around the Indianapolis area. In addition, as part of its new employee orientation, REI employees volunteered with HMBA on February 18 at Fort Harrison State Park."
