The official opening will probably not be until early spring as long as the weather works in our favor but as long as the trails are frozen and not under freeze thaw they should be good in a couple of weeks as soon as we finish the laying down the rock.

We got a good start on the creek crossing rock armoring. Nick, Danny, Larry, and myself got one crossing completely finished and almost got Barber's Bridge done as well...It's going to be a really nice trail feature and make the crossing flow as smooth as Wild Turkey and honey. Wink

Start by letting the biggest honkin rock you can "harvest" gently pull you downhill.

Add some piers that would support a tank.

Barber's Bridge........We got a lot further along than this pic shows.

Guy, I got a chance to see your handy work first hand tonight.  I have to say, that sure is one nice bridge.

I worked on the third crossing this evening for a while and will plan on finishing it this week.  The bridge down by the bowl turns.

You guys did some great work today thanks for finishing it, wish I could have been their to suffer with you guys.

Thanks NVmtbRIDER....It was a total team effort yesterday, with everyone contributing good design ideas and labor to maneuver those heavy rocks into position. The bridge was Nick's idea.
And with your work on the other end of the reroute, we should be done just in time for the spring riding season.

I hope to get out there today and finish the bridge, and armor the curve with the water seep.

The last of the three rock bridges are complete for our new re-route.  Thanks to all who helped out in this build project.

Trails looked great! Saturday was my first time riding there and the signage was a little confusing. I first tried to do the outside loop (blue I think). I made it but was confused every time I got to an intersection because either there was not a sign or the sign color did not correspond with the color on the map. Then I tried riding the inside (pink on the map) and the same thing happened. The map was also not too good; I suggest the park create a better map. Other that getting confused, the trails were great. The natural features were out standing for the park’s size. Sorry if I sounded like a Debbie Downer. Smiley

Zach, thanks for your input.  We are currently working on a new trail map for Muscatatuck Park.  This past winter we went through an extensive reroute process and are currently in the process or developing 3 to 4 more miles of trail for this season.  Unsure when the new trails will start but once Muscatatuck is finished with the final layout the signs will match the correct trail system, Novice, Intermediate and Advanced trail.  I hope that the current sign layout does not discourage you from coming out again, the trail crew leaders along with Guy Schwering and Mark Rogers feel that Muscatatuck has potential to be a great
trail system between BCSP and VSP trails.

Thanks,
Andrew McComb

I like the new reroute, you guys did a great job!

Even though I have rode this trail for last couples of years, I got a little lost Saturday morning.

I understand you are in the process of creating a new map system but in the mean time could we put up temporary signs for the ones that are new to the trails?

P.S. Now that my twins are older I have more free time on my hands I be willing to help on any trail bulding projects in the near future.

The sign suggestion is good and Muscatatuck is working on it but the park board of directors decides the fate of this portion of the trails.  The only thing that has changed at Muscatatuck in the last year is the section that runs along the road going to the old Quarry Mill parking lot.  Most of the trails not being used have been blocked off and are no longer in use.  But if you are in question about a particular trail, best advice is just follow the signs with the brown bike stickers.  Keep coming back to Muscatatuck because as the year goes on it's just going to get that much better.

Rode the reroutes tonight and they are really nicely done. Talked to Nick for a bit and got an overview of the Big Plan for Muscatatuck and it's going to be great! A big piece of raisin pie for all those who have worked so hard to improve this little gem.
