I took a friend who I road bike with out there yesterday.  When we road bike we will average between 18-19mph for 50+ miles so he can ride a bike, however he learned yesterday that mountain biking is totally different!  I usually turn my laps here just under an hour.  Yesterday we were on the trail for 2 1/2 hours!  We started at 6:20 and it was well after dark before we got off the trail, but we were walking well before dark.  At about mile 7 he threw his bike down and said I quit!  I'm done!  I laughed at him and said have fun building your new house because there is no short cut!  We either finish the trail or live here.  He was pretty upset then said that we would just have to walk out because he wasn't riding any farther.  I took it easy on him and didn't give him too hard of a time about it.  I like having someone to ride with.

That's fun! I take a guy out riding every once in a while that struggles mightily on the trails and as soon as we hit the pavement he is magically recovered and want to "race".

Very gratifying trailbuilding session this past Saturday.  We had a great group of ten hardy souls making it happen. We improved sight lines by removing honeysuckle, did a major reroute that eliminated 2 very bad fall line trails and created another great view of the lake, added much needed flow to a section that was a flow killer, protected a 200+ year old tree, and enjoyed the company of fellow mountain bikers at Wheeler's Mobile Cafe.  What a great day!

Check out the new Westwood. You're gonna like it.

Had the pleasure a couple of times recently to get back out to Westwood. Very impressed with the re-routes. I knew some changes were in the works but had no idea how huge the improvements would be. Great job to all involved!!

I am planning on visiting Westwood this Saturday (Aug 3) to do some weed trimming.  I am bringing my bike and planned on doing a lap or 2 to identify the areas needing trimmed the most and then spending a few hours cutting stuff back.  If anyone wants to join, feel free to let me know.

Did some trail work with Huff last night clearing dead vertical standing trees, widing the trail between a vertical tree and a downed horizontal tree (huge), then honey suckel extraction.  8)

Gonna start back up with Westwood Sunday around 11am.  Focusing on honeysuckle removal.  Meet at the main trailhead.

Looks like we're gonna get some warming temps to melt a lot of the snow.  Gonna still be wet, but will be ok for the task at hand.  This dramatically helped the sections we worked on last winter.

Sorry for the rope-a-dope but Mr Blum and I cranked out some trailwork this afternoon at WW. Worked on honeysuckle extraction, improving sight lines and turning radius's.

There were several impassable spots where downfall was pretty thick.  We cleared what was in our vicinity and nothing else, so assume there's gonna be some other spots along the way. We worked from the road crossing back maybe 1/2 mile.  Otherwise, conditions would've been tough for all but a fat bike due to the snow.

Rode trail yesterday on fat bike still lots of snow on trail. Three different spots with trees down. I was able to clear with handsaw but there is still a lot of low branches.
