Town Run Trail Park is a 127 acre park located on the northeast side of Indianapolis. This park is Indy's first official mountain bike trail. Although it has been in existence for many years, it became part of Indy Parks in 1999. Town Run has approximately seven and a half miles of fun singletrack, running alongside of the White River. It can easily be enjoyed by beginners and seasoned riders alike.
Over the past several years riders have seen Town Run under go several changes. The trail was once a "rollercoaster"-like dirt-bike trail, crossing back and forth over the levy. These fall line trails were quickly eroding, destroying the land and becoming dangerous to riders. With the help of the Hoosier Mountain Bike Association, Indy Parks, and several Eagle Scout projects, Town Run Trail Park is now becoming a fun, sustainable trail. By removing the eroding fall lines and rerouting the trail to higher ground Town Run will be around for many more years to come.
New obstacles were added to the trail in 2005, such as several log crossings and a few new boardwalks. Soon to come will be the new challange park that will offer several man-made obstacles such as teeter totters, jumps, etc. This project has been in the works for quite some time, and in March of 2006 it was accepted and approved by the Director of Indy Parks.
Thanks to everyone who has put in time and effor to keep the trail fun and safe for all.
