10 Easy Ways to Help HMBA

Wear a Helmet: It’s just a smart thing to do, and wearing a helmet help present mountain bikers as a safe / responsible user group.  Its about access, and a park manager may be hesitant to let us in if they don’t think we are a responsible user group).

Donate $$$ to HMBA: Tools, materials, website and admin costs all add up.

Become a member: Your membership fee helps, but more importantly, there is strength in numbers.  The total membership of HMBA is used by government officials to compare the demand for mountain bike trails vs. other user groups.

Avoid Muddy Trails: One of the key selling features HMBA uses to gain access to parks is that HMBA will build and then maintain the trails.  Damage that is done to existing trails requires HMBA resources to fix existing trails and takes away resources from building new trails.

Interact well with other user groups: People usually remember the bad encounters they have with other user groups.  Please understand how to interact with other user groups and be nice.  Do you know how to react if you encounter equestrians? http://www.imba.com/resources/soft_cycling/horses.html

Join IMBA: HMBA owes a lot to the efforts of IMBA.  IMBA leadership on the national level and support on the local level has paved the way for our successes.

Buy HMBA logo’d items from Head Sweats or HMBA:  Headsweats donates the sales from HMBA hat to HMBA, so you can promote HMBA, look good, and raise funds for HMBA all at the same time.  http://www.hmba.org/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=5&Itemid=18

Attend a trail work session:  Give some love to your local trail.  Watch HMBA forum for work dates.

Introduce someone to Mountain Biking: We build trails so that we can get more people riding.

Sign up early for the Brown County Break Down:  The BCBD is a significant source of revenue for HMBA.  Sign up early and let us put the money to work sooner.
