A Message from HMBA President, Paul Arlinghaus: HMBA Membership System is Online!

The HMBA-IMBA Chapter program is now official.  The most obvious impact to the average HMBA member will be the membership system. There are many other behind the scenes things that will help HMBA.  The new membership system will be handled by IMBA.  They have paid staff and can stay on top of membership better than we can as a volunteer organization.

If you are or have been an HMBA member, you should be getting an email from imba.  If you live in central Indiana and have been and IMBA member, you should also be getting the email.  Now when you join, you will be joining both IMBA and HMBA.

If you haven't been and HMBA or IMBA member and want to join, here is the linking to join.

http://www.imba.com/join

Your membership fee will be split 60/40 (60 for IMBA).  The hope is to create enough funding to put an IMBA rep in this region.  So if in the past, you joined at a higher level, to provide more financial support to HMBA, please consider joining IMBA/HMBA and donating to the HMBA Trail Fund.  Donations to HMBA are not split with IMBA.

Thanks,

Paul Arlinghaus.

Great Trail!

In 2005 the Hoosier Mountain Bike Association (HMBA) was awarded a $150k RTP Grant for Brown County State Park.  The HMBA Trail Fund was started in 2006 to provide the funds needed to cash flow the RTP project.  HMBA’s success with the RTP grant lead to a $250k State Trail Grant.  The RTP and State Trail Grants allowed HMBA to combine volunteer and professional trail builders and resulted in the following trails.

How does your HMBA membership fee help? PDF Print E-mail

As many of you know, we currently have new trail construction underway at Versailles State Park, O'Bannon Woods State Park, Harmonie State Park, Southwestway Park, Ampetherater Park in Lafayette, Fort Harrison State Park and we are still building trails at Brown County State Park.  The impact of the trails we are building is greater than just providing us with more trails to ride.  One benefit that is being noticed is the economic impact mountain bike trails are having to local economies.  The town of Nashville is seeing more mountain bikers spending money at local shops. Meanwhile, the French Lick Resort has hired professional trail builder, Alex Stewart, to build mountain bike trails on the resort property.  Having a private company spend real money to build a world class mountain bike trail in Indiana shows how far mountain biking has come in our state.

Your membership fee helps, but more importantly, there is strength in numbers. The total membership of HMBA is used by government officials to compare the demand for mountain bike trails vs. other user groups.
