Why does it cost $50?

The HMBA has worked hard to keep costs down for the event.  We have worked every angle to get donations and
free stuff, but there are hard costs for the event.  HMBA is attempting to break even on the event so we can
spend money where we like to... building more trails!

This event is worth FAR MORE than $50.  We are bringing in trail builders from around the country for work shops
and trail building training.

Can I attend just part of the event?

Absolutely, but you must register for the Summit to take part in any of the sessions or summit activities.

Vote Brown County Hobbs Hollow Flow Trail PDF Print E-mail

For the next few weeks, Indiana outdoor enthusiasts can help bring more world-class mountain bike trails to Brown County State Park in Nashville, Ind., simply by voting on Facebook.

Bell Bike Helmets is partnering with the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) to give away $100,000 in trail grants in its Bell Built Facebook contest. With more than 100 applications submitted, twelve trail projects have been selected as finalists in three different categories – Pump Track, Flow Trail and a Downhill.  One winner will be chosen in each category.

Hobbs Hollow is Brown County’s entry in the Flow Trail category.  This brand new 3-mile segment of trail will be jam-packed with bermed turns, step-ups, rock drops, and tabletop jumps along its a 2-mile descent with 360 feet of vertical drop, more than any other trail in the state.  Other finalists include Kingdom Trails (Burke, VT), Coldwater Mountain (Anniston, AL) and the Corral Trail (Lake Tahoe, CA).

“If this grant is truly about impact and truly about using these funds to make a difference in our sport, then Brown County is the place that deserves your vote in the Flow Category in this contest,” IMBA Midwest Regional Director Hansi Johnson said in a recent blog post. “This place truly exposes the core of our country to the positive aspects of off-road cycling, it’s creating new riders and thus new constituents in what most folks consider the flyover zone…. professionally, thinking of "impact" on the sport I would say Brown County needs your vote and thus this grant more than any of its competition.”

Brown County is already a Midwest mountain bike destination with more than 25 miles of flowing single track for all levels of riders.  Trails are built and maintained by volunteers with the Hoosier Mountain Bike Association and are enjoyed by mountain bikers, hikers, trails runners and outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and types.  In 2011, Brown County was designated an IMBA “Epic” – a distinction given to only 63 trails around the globe in the past 11 years.  The Hobbs Hollow flow trail will kick off the next wave of construction with 15 additional miles planned over the next few years.

To vote, visit http://www.facebook.com/BellBikeHelmets/app_228716427271717 before the contest ends April 12.  Voting does not work on mobile devices.

As HMBA is an all volunteer organization, we are always trying to find ways to best use our volunteer's time. When it comes to web related content, we've realized that our HMBA Forum and HMBA Facebook page is getting most of the web traffic, and has most of the useful content for riders. For the time being, we will be concentrating most of our efforts on keeping these areas up to date and relevant

We are also in the process of finding a better Content Management System that will make our very limited number of web editors jobs a bit easier.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Brown County Gets IMBA "Epic" Status PDF Print E-mail

We are proud to announce that the Brown County State Park mountain bike trail system has been named as a 2011 recipient of the IMBA Epic trail designation.  This is huge news, as it puts Brown County in some very exclusive company.  Over the last ten years, IMBA has only given the Epic trail designation to 57 different trail systems around the world.  In addition to Brown County, this year's Epic class includes trail systems in Wales (UK), Yukon (CAN), North Carolina and Pennsylvania.

The IMBA Epic program singles out the premier trails and rides around the country as selected by IMBA staff who consult closely with club leaders to find out which trails are having the biggest influence on riders, as well as land managers and decision makers.  These rides are the models that shape IMBA's concept of what is possible for trail recreation on public lands.

The IMBA Epic trail designation comes after 8 years of very hard work by the Hoosier Mountain Bike Association.  Brown County's other accolades include being named one of the top 33 trails in North America in Bike magazine's March, 2009 issue.  Congratulations are due to the Hoosier Mountain Bike Association, its members and volunteers that have helped to create the preeminent mountain biking destination in the Midwest, and one of the best trails systems in the world.

While it is appropriate to pause and enjoy the accolades, there is much more work to be done.  The vision for Brown County State Park's mountain bike trail system is only half complete.  Trail designers and leaders of the HMBA envision a trail system that will ultimately be  much larger and more varied.  Almost 25 miles of planned trails are still unconstructed.  If you'd like to see them built sooner, please consider joining the HMBA or giving to the HMBA Trail Fund.
